ChillsDanger Scale: 3
Chills are somewhat similar to our common cold. It is only somewhat contagious and is caught by bacteria in the air. It doesn't last very long, but it can turn into far worse things if the infected person is not cared for. Symptoms Intense shivering, runny nose, hoarse coughing, feeling of always being cold. Treatment Bed rest, hot fluids, some herbal remedies FrostmouthDanger Level: 4
Frostmouth is a rather scary sickness, but isn't as damaging or deadly as it appears. The symptoms often inspire panic, which can lead to self harm, but otherwise the sickness doesn't do much else. It is of an unknown cause, though is suspected to be induced by an unknown toxin, prominently found in the cold North. It goes away after several months if untreated, but help should definitely be sought if it appears in infants. If the patient does not follow the treatments, it can progress into White Blood. Frostmouth is highly contagious. Symptoms Red eyes, ashen skin, bloody vomit, unpleasant smell, very pale till almost white color in the lips which it was named for. Treatment Special drugs that combat the symptoms. There is no immediate cure. The patient should drink warm herbal fluids, eat plenty of citrus, get lots of bed rest, and do no physical labor. Black EyeDanger Scale: 5
Black Eye does not affect the eyes. Rather, it gets its name from the odd black mark of an eye on the back of the neck that appears once the disease is contracted. It is caused by certain particles ingested by inhaling stagnant air that was trapped underground, so usually it is present in miners or those who dig in caves. Black Eye isn't very harmful in its own right, though blackouts, stiffness, and unresponsive limbs can increase risk of harmful accidents. It is very contagious and can cause permanent damage in children. It usually affects the limbs, but can also trouble breathing in children and infants. Symptoms A black marking of an eye on the back of the neck. Stiffness in joints, unresponsive limbs, nervous twitching, flashes of pain in extremities, congested feeling, drowsiness, constantly tripping or falling, mild black outs. Troubled breathing or harsh coughing in children and infants. Treatment Can be cured by medicine. Infected person takes medications and needs to remain active and outdoors in sunshine. If untreated, it will eventually run its course after a few months, though in children, it may cause permanent weakness or stiffness in limbs. NeurocrisDanger Scale: 6
A mental disorder that affects the part of the brain that discerns between reality and imagination. It is also called Sleepwalking Sickness. Neurocris has no discernible cause, and it doesn't affect everyone the exact same way. It can be either slightly dangerous or deadly depending on the individual. Neurocris puts the infected person in an almost constant state of hallucinations. This can cause severe mental and emotional distress to the person, not to mention physical harm as they can run into things, fall, and especially when they try to interact with their surroundings, they can even kill themselves. Especially where the latter case is involved, the more deadly and less known disease, Silencia, is often mistaken for Neurocris. Symptoms Pale eyes (as if they're going blind), mumbling, shaking hands, talking to self constantly, grasping/touching/reaching for/interacting with things not there, loss of direction, loss of or increased appetite, Treatment Neurocris can be cured, but the process is a long one, usually up to a month but sometimes one and a half months. During the curing process, patients should be monitored, kept in bed, and fed special diets allotted by the acting physician. ShatteringsDanger Rate: 7
Though not a deadly disease, it is highly dangerous. The cause of Shatterings is unknown, and though it occurs rarely, it is still considered a threatening disease. It is a disease that causes the bones to weaken and deteriorate, eventually leading to them constantly shattering whenever pressure is applied. Because of this, a patient's life span is expected to drop due to their inability to truly fend for themselves as well as the risk certain bones shattering may pierce vital organs. Symptoms Initial: Weakness, dizziness, pain in joints, trouble standing or sitting, shaking limbs, migraines. Onset: Terrible weakness, shattering bones, frequent loss of vision, blinding pain, inability to walk or sit. Treatment The treatment is difficult with no permanent cure. The patient must stay off their feet most of the day and get lots of bed rest. They cannot be put into situation that involve pressure changes such as operating certain vehicles or going to great heights and depths. Special medication and therapy assist the patient but do not cure them. BlackwormDanger Scale: 8
Blackworm is a disease caused by consuming the eggs of a certain type of fish called Mallowmort. Consumption is usually accidental when a thirsty person chances upon a stream where the fish has laid its eggs. The eggs are black and tiny (about the size of Nerds candy). When swallowed, the eggs usually catch in the person's throat where they absorb into the esophagus and wait to hatch. The eggs then begin to mutate as part of an inherent defense mechanism. Once hatched, the mutated fish resemble long, thin leeches. Their fins are usually too thin to be seen properly by the naked eye. They dig their way throughout the person's body, eating the flesh as they go, and excreting a black mucus into the blood stream. This black mucus causes the disease. After a period of time, the worms will dig their way out of the host -via the spine or arms- shrivel up, and die. The disease kills children and the elderly on occasion, otherwise not, but once it has run its course, the host will be paralyzed for life. Symptoms 1. When eggs are absorbed: slightly sore throat, chills, headaches. 2. When eggs hatch and fish are free: high fever, seizures, bleeding out the pores, black colored blood, numbness, dizziness, loss of balance, blurred vision, loss of pre-cognate abilities. 3. When fish die: weakness in severely destroyed parts as well as permanent paralysis throughout body Treatment If caught in the very early parts of the first stage, the eggs can be removed from the throat surgically. If caught shortly after eggs are hatched, medication is prescribed that can prohibit the seizures and loss of pre-cognate abilities. Once the victim is well into the second stage, there is no medication. This disease has no full cure. HeilzostigmaDanger Level: 10
It affects Nephilim only. Strange and unexplainable, it is said to be caused from contamination gained by close proximities to certain Angels or overexposure to contaminated mecha. It's a disease that causes the body to deteriorate from the inside out from a combination of factors. One: the contamination, whatever it may be, naturally eats away at the body like an acid. Two: the body's immune system overreacts to combat this alien virus. And three: the Nephilim's heightened regenerative abilities prevent the disease from truly eating away at itself. While all three factors fight it out -one harming, one harming by helping and one helping- the body eventually weakens, deteriorates, and dies. Symptoms First: exhaustion, coughing, fever. Second: skin turns black, coughing blood, vomiting blood, disorientation, short term memory loss, alertness, slight pains Third: the skin randomly cracks like stone and bleeds a sweet smelling blue blood, skin withers and blackens further, dreamlike 'visions', vomiting blue blood, instant and total memory recall, weakness, bouts of insomnia Treatment There is no cure. Victims are kept in special containment units in the labs of Mater Purge. |
Needle FootDanger Level: 3
Needle Foot is a disorder that children are born with. It remains for life, but on occasion, can be outgrown by the forties or fifties. It is a disorder that causes tingling pain and numbness in the feet and sometimes hands. Feels the same as when one's foot falls asleep, only permanent. It is more or less a bothersome disorder, but one that can be accomadated. Because of the numbness, special casts are worn by the patient to help them attain balance while walking. Symptoms A permanent and persistent tingling pain and numbness in the feet and sometimes hands. Treatment Uncruable. Special casts are worn by patients to conserve balance while walking. Cammar's DiseaseDanger Level: 4
Cammar's Disease is triggered by contaminated food, wether it is spoiled, rotten, or infected. It is one of several diseases transmitted by food. It goes away after a few weeks, but often recurs at random intervals. It has no permanent cure, but there are antibiotics to combat it. It is mildly harmless and not contagious. Symptoms Stiffness in joints, itching rashes, muscle weakness, disorientation Treatment A dose of antibiotics while symptoms persist. MuddlesDanger Level: 5
Muddles, or The Muddles, is a relatively well-heard of sickness, and is especially found in people who wander into uncharted wilderness. It is caused by infected animal bites and the symptoms will persist until treated. The infection can cause memory loss, but the memories can be retained once the person has been treated. Usually, the sickness doesn't leave permanent damage. It's mid-rating is attributed to the dangers of not getting treated, where the stiffness in joints and memory loss persist and become incurable. Symptoms Stiffness in joints, headaches, black or red spots on skin and eyes, unusually-colored mucus, red eyes, memory loss. Treatment Antibiotics. If the sickness has been untreated for extensive periods of time, the physicians may flush the blood. SarciesDanger Rate: 5
Sarcies is obtained from infected animal bites. Once a deadly disease, the danger has been reduced thanks to recent discovery of a cure. Though symptoms of the disease go away in a few days on their own, some become permanent, which can be dangerous as the symptoms which remain may vary. Symptoms Bleeding from orifices, seizures, memory loss, stiffness in joints, loss of appetite, nausea Treatment The treatment is rather difficult and involves hourly doses of a special medicine called Maloka-85 Horse's DeathDanger Level: 6
Horse's Death was so named for the initial mistaken idea that the disease came from horses. It was discovered that it actually comes from rats and is a common, deadly disease. It passes to humans from rat bites or rat excretions and affects multiple parts of the body at once. It is relatively easy to diagnose but the treatment is rather difficult. The real danger is in the lengthy treatment process and the patient's difficulty in swallowing, which can cause starvation, especially in children. The immune system is also affected by this disease, and patients are at a higher risk of food-bourne illnesses and other maladies. Symptoms Loss of hearing, difficulty swallowing, black spots, burning rashes. Treatment Involves a lengthy process of immunotherapy and a strict diet of mostly pills and food capsules. The main risk in this treatment is starvation, so the patients must be closely monitored. WhitebloodDanger Level: 7
White Blood is developed from Frostmouth and Chills when either sickness worsens. Whiteblood does not come of its own accord, it must develop from Chills or Frostmouth. It is a harsh strain and results from the body overworking to combat the disease by creating an overload of white blood cells that completely destroy the body. It is only rated at a 7 due to the fact it can be cured. if left untreated, the patient will die. It is a type of wasting disease. Symptoms Early Stage: White blood, dark colored irises, dilated pupils at all times, increased appetite, constant vomiting, vomiting blood, loss of motor functions, dry and white lips. Later Stage: White postules on body, distended stomach, severe hunchback, difficulty breathing and swallowing, enlarged eyes, organ disfunction, death. Treatment It is cured by radiation therapy that lasts about a week in early stages with special medications. In later stages, the patient undergoes heavy radiation therapy for up to six months. Slow HeartDanger Scale: 8
Slow Heart is a disorder that stems from a lack of proper development of the heart in an unborn fetus. When the child is born, the heart looks normal at first glance, but on closer inspection, certain valves, nerves, and muscles are not functioning properly. There is no cure to Slow Heart except a full blown heart transplant, but many do not take the risk. It can be treated otherwise. Slow Heart causes the heart's rhythm to be off balance. The rhythm will speed up, slow down, and even stop altogether at random moments. The danger is present when the heart stops or speeds up, as the speed can elevate to an abnormal rate that will either implode or shut down the heart permanently. Symptoms Irregular rhythm, fainting, chest pain from minute to intense, prolonged chest pain, trouble breathing, drastic temperature changes, drowsiness, alertness, insomnia. Treatment Temporary: Regulated, alternating shots of adrenalin and nonadrenalin or pill form, specialized therapy. Cure: Heart Transplant SilenciaDanger Rate: 10
Silencia is a Curse caused by Angels. It affects the mind, and is considered the most dangerous of mental diseases. Silencia starts off very subtle and builds gradually at the start, then escalates to its peak at an instantaneous moment. Silencia causes extreme hallucinations and makes the victim hear the Angel's voice sweetly inviting them to harm themselves until the victim finally commits suicide, usually in a very painful and grotesque way. Silencia was named for its subtly, and how, in the later extreme stages, the victim is always shouting something along the lines of "shut up". Symptoms Early: Blank stares, dizziness, drowsiness, shaking hands, loss of direction and appetite. Later: Black markings on body, screaming, talking to self, hallucinations, nightmares, cold to the touch but always feeling hot and sweating, self mutilation. End: Death Treatment Victims in the early stages are often mistaken to have Neurocris. Once Silencia reaches later stages is when the victim is discovered to have Silencia. The only way to treat it is to restrain and contain them until the disease, hopefully, runs its course. There is no real cure, though it is rumored an angel can end it. |
